Polina Marinova Pompliano: Immigrating to America, Creative Entrepreneurship & New Media
The Ben & Tony Podcast: Episode 2
Hey there, play our episode with Polina Marinova Pompliano here:
Anthony’s Thoughts:
I moved around a lot as a child and can relate to Polina’s transition moving from Bulgaria to the US. Her life has been dramatically shaped by this, which not only spoke to me personally but I know will speak to many of you in the audience. We talked about the power of the immigrant experience to strengthen a person’s sense of resolve, especially in America.
Polina has kept this tenacity and passion throughout her career, culminating in the very brave move of leaving a steady job at Fortune Magazine to launch The Profile. Polina symbolises what the future of media can be, a people-driven business where individuals can become their own trusted brands. People increasingly trust other people more than they trust media brands, and Polina has developed an exceptional level of trust with her audience.
I look forward to seeing Polina’s star burn even brighter as we turn the page to a new world of media.
Ben’s Thoughts:
Polina embodies the wave of new media: she’s risk taking, insightful, and genuine. This was my very first podcast recording, so I was slightly apprehensive going into it. It felt like it was the world’s most important episode. Within minutes of meeting her, we’d created a very natural and easy conversation; it’s no wonder that so many big names have said yes to interviews with her.
Rich with stories, we meandered through Polina’s experience coming to America as a Bulgarian immigrant, her motivation to leave Fortune and become a full-time independent creator, and what she’s working on next. Polina left one question top of mind for me, and any other budding creator: if not now, when?
